So sorry I haven’t been writing lately, this blog post was something that I was going to put up and February, but I was too busy in February to publish this, thank you all for sticking with me though and I hope that I will find the time to update you on what has been going on for the past few months at a later date.
Probably the most prominent moment that people will remember when LGBT history is mentioned would be when equal marriage was passed into law in 17th of July 2013 with the first marriages taking place on the 29th of March 2014. Although this probably isn’t the most significant of changes, because if certain things hadn’t happened in history then it would probably still be illegal today for people who were LGBT to even be together, let alone to come out as well.
A prime example of people, who really have changed things for LGBT people would be, Alan Turing who deciphered the enigma code during World War Two so that he could help decode some German messages to see when the Germans were going to bomb and who they were going to attack next. So he in affect saved us from being defeated by Germany. In 1952, he was then arrested for homosexual acts, as punishment for his acts he then accepted a chemical castration, over a prison sentence. Then in 1954 he committed suicide by biting into an apple that was laced with cyanide, in 2009 UK’s current prime Minister Gordon Brown joined a campaign to help him get pardoned, he was then granted the pardon that he deserved.
This truly shows that no matter how much someone goes through, if there is a cause worth fighting for, then do it no matter what because you never know what is coming around that next corner through life. What happened to Alan Turing showed that, the fact that he is now remembered as someone that got punished and what he got punished for, instead of helping to save your country during the war.
If you want to watch a film on Alan Turing, I will enclose a link to the trailer and a link to the DVD on amazon.co.uk for those that are interested and want to find out more.
I will do my best to keep you all updated with my progress and what I have been up to in the past few months.
