Hamilton on Disney Plus

Hey all,

Hope you’re all doing ok?
The last few weeks and months have all been chaotic, with everything that has been going on. One thing that has affected me the most, as I’m sure most of you will agree, is the lack of Performing Arts!
Which is why I was eager to watch the full performance of Hamilton that Disney put up on their new online streaming platform, “Disney Plus”. This makes so much sense and the whole show was phenomenal. Having said that I’m still going to have to make sure that I go and see it when the theatres are back open on the West End.
The show of Hamilton was performed by the original Broadway cast and then uploaded on to Disney Plus for everyone to watch and enjoy as many times as they all want throughout Lockdown. Hamilton is without a doubt the most unusual musical that I have ever seen with a mixture of Ballad, Pop and Rap music thrown in all the way through. This shows clearly the future of Musical Theatre and how the story behind the musical can be told by using a wide range of genre.
The cast was superb as their different characters, it was amazing to see Johnathan Groff back on a stage singing after Glee (which I love!), he brought such a fun side to his character with the very psychotic smile of King George. Then of course Lin- Manuel Miranda as Hamilton himself, his rapping telling the story of his character throughout was awesome! The true feeling and emotional tale of his character came through, thanks to the phenomenal acting of not only himself but the amazing ensemble.
The story of Hamilton is as follows, Alexander Hamilton was one of the forgotten founders of American Independence who worked his way out of poverty and lead the way to fight for American Independence. This story is incredibly emotional and uplifting all at the same time! It’s a story that everyone should know, so that then no matter where you come from, you know that you too could make a difference.

The only thing I would say about the show is that sometimes with the majority of the music being rapping it can be a little difficult to understand, but that may just be because its on-screen and not in the theatre. At the end of the day, you can’t beat the atmosphere of the theatre when you are watching anything!
Please let me know if you watch this wonderful show on Disney Plus as I would like to hear what you all have to say about the show as well, as always just use the comments box below and I will get back to you! Also please let me know what you are missing most about going to the theatre.

See you all soon!

Much Love

Jem xx
